About Hotel Jaisal Inn

Hotel Jaisal Inn does the simple things properly. Clean rooms, working air-conditioning, hot water, reliable WiFi and a team that answers questions honestly — which, at this price point in a tourist city, is worth more than any lobby chandelier. Rooms are compact but well maintained, with single, double and triple occupancy options that suit solo travellers and small groups equally.

The location near the railway station solves a specific Jaisalmer problem: most trains from Delhi and Jaipur arrive early in the morning or late at night, and dragging luggage across town at 5 AM starts a trip badly. Being minutes from the platform means you can drop bags, sleep, and begin the day properly.

Backpackers and independent travellers form the core of the guest mix here, and the atmosphere reflects it — easy conversation over morning chai, shared jeep safaris to the dunes, and a front desk used to arranging budget desert camp nights, shared transfers and onward train tickets. It's the kind of place where a solo traveller arrives alone and leaves with a group heading to Khuri together.

  • Excellent value with clean, AC rooms
  • Minutes from Jaisalmer railway station
  • Solo and backpacker friendly atmosphere
  • Budget desert camp and shared safari bookings
  • Free WiFi and hot water throughout
  • Luggage storage for early or late trains

A wonderful stay! The room was clean, modern but with the touch of our cultural heritage, and very comfortable. The staff were exceptionally friendly, and the breakfast buffet had a great variety of delicious options. Perfect central location. Highly recommended!

Had an absolutely wonderful stay at this hotel in Jaisalmer. The view of the fort is mesmerizing and truly makes the experience unforgettable. The staff were incredibly professional and cooperative. Special mention to Jitendra and Narendra — both of them went out of their way to make my stay so comfortable and hassle-free. Thank you for the hospitality. Will definitely recommend this place and visit again

Jaisalmer on a Budget: What It Actually Costs

Jaisalmer is one of the more affordable major destinations in Rajasthan, and a well-planned budget trip covers everything the expensive version does. Realistic daily costs for a budget traveller: accommodation ₹1,200–₹2,000, meals ₹400–₹700 eating at local restaurants and rooftop cafés, local transport ₹200–₹400 by auto, and entry fees under ₹300 for the fort museum and havelis combined. The single biggest expense is the desert night, and even that starts around ₹1,200–₹2,000 per person including dinner, breakfast and a camel safari at a basic camp.

Free and Nearly-Free Things to Do

Walking into Jaisalmer Fort costs nothing — it's a living neighbourhood, and only the palace museum charges entry. The haveli lanes are free to wander, with fees only for interiors. Gadisar Lake has no entry charge, and boating is a few hundred rupees. Vyas Chhatri, the city's sunset point, asks a nominal fee. A traveller with ₹500 could fill an entire day well.

Choosing a Budget Desert Experience

At the dunes, three price tiers exist. The cheapest is the open-air sleep-out — mattresses and blankets laid on the sand, dinner cooked over a fire, and the Milky Way overhead, typically ₹1,200–₹2,000 per person. Standard Swiss tents with attached washrooms run ₹2,500–₹4,500. Luxury AC camps start around ₹6,000. For most backpackers, the sleep-out delivers the better memory at a third of the price — see our budget backpacker package. Shared jeep and camel safaris cut costs further — a jeep seating five or six splits to a few hundred rupees each.

Sam or Khuri for Budget Travellers

The Sam Sand Dunes are livelier, closer (40 km) and have more operators competing on price. Khuri, 48 km out, is quieter and more village-oriented, often with family-run camps at gentle rates. Backpackers who want atmosphere over spectacle tend to prefer Khuri; those who want the classic camel-silhouette sunset choose Sam. Either can be booked as a shared trip from the city.

Getting Here Cheaply

Trains are the best value into Jaisalmer — sleeper class from Delhi, Jaipur or Jodhpur costs a fraction of flying, and the overnight journey saves a night's accommodation. Book on IRCTC well ahead for December and festival dates, when Jaisalmer trains fill quickly. State buses connect Jodhpur and Bikaner affordably. Within the city, autos handle everything; agree the fare before starting.

Travelling Smart, Not Just Cheap

A few habits protect a budget trip. Confirm what a safari price includes before paying — "camel safari extra" at the dune gate is the most common complaint tourists report. Avoid touts at the railway station offering suspiciously cheap camp packages; book through your hotel or a known operator. Carry cash, as smaller camps and villages may not accept cards. And don't cut the desert night to save money — it's the one expense in Jaisalmer that everyone agrees was worth it.
