The Thar Desert makes sense from above in a way it never quite does from the ground. In a tandem paramotor flight you lift off from flat sand, climb a few hundred feet, and watch the dune field resolve into what it actually is: a vast ocean of wind-sculpted ridges running to the horizon in every direction. Bookings through Shrinath Adventures.
A note on availability: unlike our camel and jeep safaris, paramotoring is not a standing, guaranteed fixture — it depends on a specialist operator being present and on calm wind conditions. We check real availability for your specific dates before confirming, rather than promising a flight we can't deliver.
What a Flight Involves
You'll be strapped into a tandem harness in front of a certified pilot, with the motor and propeller behind. Takeoff is a short run across flat sand — a few strides and the wing lifts you off the ground with startling gentleness. There's no plunge, no drop; paramotors ascend slowly and fly at walking-conversation volume.
At altitude you'll circle the dune belt for several minutes, with the pilot pointing out features and often taking photographs. The landing is another short run on sand.
When It Flies — and When It Doesn't
Paramotoring is entirely weather-dependent. Flights run only in calm conditions, which in the Thar means early morning (6:30–9:00 AM, the most reliable window) and the last two hours before sunset. Mid-day thermals and any significant wind ground the aircraft, and pilots will cancel rather than compromise — a cancellation is a good sign, not a bad one.
Season runs roughly October to March.
Restrictions
Typical limits: minimum age around 12–14, maximum weight around 90–100 kg, and exclusions for pregnancy, heart conditions, recent surgery, and severe back or neck problems. Alcohol before flying is an absolute no. We confirm the exact limits with the operator at the time of your enquiry, since these can vary.
What It Costs
From around ₹2,999 per person for a standard tandem flight, when available — we confirm current pricing and whether photos or video are included at the time of booking, since this varies between the specific operators present at Sam.
Practical Tips
Book the morning slot — it's calmer and far less likely to be cancelled. Wear closed shoes and fitted clothing; nothing loose. Empty your pockets completely, and secure or leave behind hats, sunglasses on cords, and anything that can drop. Don't eat a heavy meal beforehand. And build flexibility into your day: if the wind rises, your slot moves, and arguing with weather over a desert is a losing position.
Combine It With
Morning flight, then breakfast, then an afternoon of jeep dune bashing and the sunset camel safari — that's the complete adventure day at Sam Sand Dunes. Stay overnight at Happy Adventure Desert Camp to fit it all in without rushing.
