About Happy Adventure Desert Camp

Experience the real desert life

Happy Adventure Desert Camp is built for travellers who want the Thar at full throttle. Alongside the standard desert programme — sunset camel safari, bonfire, folk performance and Rajasthani dinner — this camp at the Sam Sand Dunes puts adventure activities at the centre: 4x4 dune bashing, quad biking across open sand, and paramotoring over the ridgelines, some on site and some arranged with trusted local operators nearby. All bookings are coordinated through Shrinath Adventures.

Accommodation runs from simple Swiss tents to larger deluxe units, all with attached washrooms and hot water. The atmosphere skews young — friend groups, college trips, couples on their first desert night — and the evenings run livelier than at the quieter camps, with music continuing well after dinner.

Adventure Activities at Sam: What They Cost

ActivityDurationIndicative price
Jeep safari (dune bashing)30–45 min₹1,500–₹2,500 per jeep (5–6 seats)
Quad biking / ATV15–30 min₹800–₹2,000 per ride
Paramotoring5–10 min₹2,000–₹3,500 per person
Camel safari (included)45–60 minIncluded with stay

Prices at the dunes are negotiated openly, which is why booking through the camp rather than at the gate matters — you get a fixed rate in writing instead of a discussion in the sand.

Jeep vs Camel: Which Should You Do?

Both, ideally. A camel safari is slow, quiet and lets the desert's scale register — it's the ride people describe afterwards. A jeep safari is loud, fast and genuinely thrilling, climbing dune faces and sliding down slopes at angles that feel improbable. Most guests here ride a jeep out to the far dunes and a camel back to the sunset point. For the full comparison, see our Jaisalmer desert safari guide.

A Note on Safety

Dune bashing is safe when done properly and unpleasant when it isn't. Sit in the front if you're prone to motion sickness, ask the driver to ease off if it's too much, and skip it entirely if you have back or neck problems, are pregnant, or are travelling with very young children. Quad biking requires a basic briefing — insist on it, and wear closed shoes.

Evenings and Nights

The cultural programme runs nightly in season: Manganiyar folk singers, Kalbeliya dance and a bonfire, followed by a Rajasthani buffet. Afterwards the sky takes over — Sam has near-zero light pollution, and on moonless nights the Milky Way is clearly visible. Guests specifically interested in the night sky should look at our stargazing and night safari package.

Getting Here and What Else to See

The camp is about 40 km from Jaisalmer, an hour by road. The drive out passes Bada Bagh, Kuldhara Village and the Jaisalmer War Museum — a full desert circuit in one afternoon. Season runs October to March, with November to February best for outdoor activity; summer heat above 45°C shuts most operations down.

Our family recently stayed at Desert Camp and had a truly memorable experience. The tents were spacious and comfortable, easily accommodating our family of three, with an extra bed provided for our son. The bathrooms were clean and well-maintained, with hot water available throughout. The food was delicious, hot, and very satisfying, offering a great variety for both vegetarian and non-vegetarian preferences.Activities at the camp were enjoyable and well-organized. We particularly loved the jeep safar , provided an amazing adventure over the sand dunes. The camel ride was also enjoyable and a great way to experience the desert. The New Year’s Eve celebration was wonderful, with tasteful decorations and well-prepared cultural activities. Although the schedule extended beyond the announced time, the DJ music and lively atmosphere made it a truly memorable evening. The fireplaces and seating arrangements reflected attention to detail and added to the enchanting ambiance. The staff were exceptional—attentive, supportive, and always smiling, accommodating every request with warmth. We were even presented with a thoughtful thank-you takeaway, which was the perfect finishing touch.Overall, we had an amazing desert experience and would highly recommend Desert Camp to anyone visiting Jaisalmer for its comfort, hospitality, and immersive desert activities.
