Jaisalmer Desert Safari Prices vary by type. A Jaisalmer desert safari refers to any guided outing into the Sam or Khuri sand dunes — most commonly a camel ride, a 4x4 jeep dune-bashing run, or a combination of both timed for sunset — typically priced from ₹300–1,000 per person for a camel ride and ₹1,500–2,500 per jeep.

The Main Types of Desert Safari in Jaisalmer

Camel safari is the classic, slow-paced option — a guided ride across the dunes, usually timed to reach a viewpoint by sunset. Jeep safari (also called dune-bashing) is faster and rougher, driving over dune crests in a 4x4 for an adrenaline-focused outing. Many visitors do both: a short jeep transfer followed by a camel ride for the final approach to the sunset point.

What Time Should You Go?

Sunset departures (around 4:30–5:30 PM depending on season) are by far the most popular, since the light on the dunes is at its best and temperatures have cooled from the day's peak. Morning safaris exist but are far less common and offer a different, quieter light. See our sunset safari timing guide for exact departure windows by month.

What's Included in a Standard Safari Booking

A typical camel or jeep safari booking includes the ride itself, a guide or handler, and transfer to and from the dune area if booked as part of a camp stay. Water and snacks are sometimes included on longer or overnight options; always confirm this when booking, especially in summer heat.

Best Season for a Desert Safari

October to March is the season, with December–January the coldest (nights near 5°C) and October–November and February–March more temperate for daytime activity. Most safari operators, including ours, pause or reduce operations April–June when daytime temperatures cross 45°C.

Combining a Safari with a Camp Night

Most visitors pair their safari with an overnight desert camp stay rather than a same-day return trip — see our Jaisalmer desert camp guide for camp options, or book our 1-night desert camp package, which bundles the safari, cultural evening and stay into one price.

Have Questions? We're Here to Help

The main options are camel safari (slow, scenic), jeep dune-bashing (fast, 4x4), and a combined evening using both — plus a multi-hour overnight trek for a deeper experience.

Camel safaris use a slow, guided pace suitable for most ages; jeep safaris are more physically jarring and better suited to older children and adults.
