What Is a Desert Camp Stay Like?

Your evening begins around 4 PM with check-in and tea on the dunes. By 5 PM you're on a camel heading to the sunset point, where the Thar turns gold, orange and crimson. Back at camp, Manganiyar musicians and Kalbeliya dancers perform around the bonfire, followed by a Rajasthani buffet — dal baati churma, gatte ki sabzi, ker sangri. Sam vs Khuri: Which Dunes Should You Choose?

The Sam Sand Dunes (40 km, ~1 hour from the city) have the tallest dunes and the liveliest evening scene — this is where most camps, including our partner properties, operate. Khuri (48 km) is quieter and more village-like. First-timers should choose Sam; returning travellers seeking silence often prefer Khuri.
