A Desert Night Without the Crowds

Khuri sits near a genuine desert village rather than a tourist strip, which means smaller camps, fewer jeeps at sunset, and a more local feel — herders and village life are visibly part of the landscape here, not staged for visitors.

  • Noticeably quieter than Sam at sunset
  • Small, family-run camps rather than large operations
  • Same camel safari and bonfire program as Sam
  • Good for returning visitors who've already seen Sam
  • Slightly longer drive from Jaisalmer city

Off the Main Tourist Route

Khuri is a desert village and dune area about 48 km from Jaisalmer, roughly 8 km further than Sam Sand Dunes, offering a quieter, more village-oriented camping experience with the same core inclusions — camel safari, bonfire, folk night and dinner — but noticeably smaller evening crowds.

Why Choose Khuri Over Sam?

Sam Sand Dunes has become the default for first-time visitors partly because it's better known and slightly closer to the city — which also means it's busier. Khuri's dunes are genuinely smaller in scale than Sam's tallest ridges, but the trade-off is a much calmer evening: fewer jeeps, fewer other camps' bonfires visible in the distance, and a stronger sense of an actual working desert village around you.

What's Included at Khuri Camps

The same core program as Sam: welcome drink, sunset camel safari, Manganiyar folk music and Kalbeliya dance around a bonfire, a Rajasthani buffet dinner, overnight tent stay and breakfast. Tent standards range from budget to mid-range at Khuri; genuinely luxury AC suites are rarer here than at Sam, so if that's a priority, Sam currently has more options.

Best Time to Visit Khuri

The same October–March window applies, with the added benefit that Khuri rarely reaches Sam's peak-season crowding even during the December 20–January 2 rush or the Desert Festival weeks in late January/early February. Summer (April–June) sees most camps here close too, given the same 45°C+ heat.

How to Reach Khuri

Khuri is about a 50–60 minute drive from Jaisalmer, slightly longer than the Sam route; most camps arrange pickup, or you can book a private transfer through our taxi service.

Booking a Khuri Camp

We work with a smaller set of trusted camps at Khuri than at Sam, given the lower overall camp density here — message us your dates on WhatsApp and we'll confirm what's genuinely available rather than overbooking a small village property.
