Jodhpur Jaisalmer Tour Package — Blue City to Golden City
Jodhpur and Jaisalmer sit about 285 km apart, a natural two-city pairing — here's how the route works, what to see in each, and how to build the trip around your available time.
The Natural Pairing of Blue City and Golden City
Jodhpur and Jaisalmer are close enough, and different enough, to make an excellent two-city trip — Mehrangarh's imposing scale and the blue-washed old city, followed by Jaisalmer's living fort and the Sam Sand Dunes.
- A comfortable ~5 hour drive between the two cities
- Mehrangarh Fort and blue-city lanes in Jodhpur
- Jaisalmer Fort, havelis and a desert camp night
- Private car for the full route, not a shared bus
- Fits into a 4-day trip comfortably

Jodhpur and Jaisalmer are approximately 285 km apart, roughly a 5-hour scenic drive across the Thar's edge — a natural two-city pairing combining Jodhpur's Mehrangarh Fort and blue-washed old city with Jaisalmer's living fort and Sam Sand Dunes desert camp, typically fitting into a 4-day trip.
A Suggested Jodhpur-Jaisalmer Itinerary
| Day | Focus |
|---|---|
| Day 1 | Jodhpur arrival, clock tower market and blue lanes walk |
| Day 2 | Mehrangarh Fort, Jaswant Thada, evening at leisure |
| Day 3 | Drive to Jaisalmer (~5 hrs), evening Gadisar Lake sunset |
| Day 4 | Jaisalmer Fort and havelis, transfer to Sam, camel safari, camp night |
This is effectively the first four days of our Desert Triangle Tour, which extends the same route on to Bikaner — a good option if you have 6 days rather than 4 and want a third city included.
Just Jodhpur and Jaisalmer, No Bikaner
If you'd rather keep the trip to exactly these two cities, we can build a focused 4-day Jodhpur–Jaisalmer itinerary on request, using the same private car and desert camp arrangements as our published circuit but without the Bikaner extension.
What to See in Each City
Jodhpur: Mehrangarh Fort (one of India's largest and best-preserved), Jaswant Thada, and the blue-painted old city lanes. Jaisalmer: the living Jaisalmer Fort (still home to around 3,000 residents), Patwon Ki Haveli's carved facades, and the Sam Sand Dunes for a camel safari and desert camp night.
How Long Should You Spend in Each City?
A full day each in Jodhpur and Jaisalmer's city sightseeing, plus one night at the desert camp, is the minimum for a satisfying visit — rushing either city means missing its main sights.
Best Time for This Route
October to March, the same season as the rest of Rajasthan's desert circuit; the drive itself is comfortable year-round but the desert camp night is only pleasant in the cooler months.
